In short

Socijalni dan (Social Day) is a project in which high school students spend one day working for real employers and donate the wage they earn to charity. For the Sarajevo Canton edition we built the whole digital system. The public website takes applications from students and employers. The internal CRM runs the entire process, from the first contact with a company to schedules, notifications and consent forms on the day itself.

The challenge

The organisation used to run on spreadsheets, personal email and messages. With hundreds of students and employers that means lost applications, duplicate emails and missing information. In a few weeks we had to build a system that:

  • takes applications without errors or spam;
  • handles communication with 300+ potential employers;
  • assigns students by their interests and by school rules;
  • keeps everyone informed, even when the schedule changes at the last minute.

The website

  • Student application: a form with the municipality and up to three fields of work in order of priority, with data validation, bot protection and a limit on attempts.
  • Automatic consent type: from the date of birth the system decides whether a parent or the student signs the consent form.
  • Online sign-up for employers: companies enter the number of places, working hours and address themselves, and the data goes straight into the CRM.
  • Applications open and close with one switch, with a clear message for visitors when they are closed.
  • A fast, responsive design with SEO set up, plus terms of use and a privacy policy.

The CRM

  • Employer database with a sales funnel: every company has a status (new, contacted, replied, confirmed, full, declined), contacts, notes and the full correspondence on one card.
  • Mail merge: personalised emails from templates, with CC to several addresses and the status of every email tracked: delivered, bounced or blocked.
  • Incoming replies: answers from companies are saved to the employer’s card automatically.
  • Students and placement:
    • overview by school, municipality and interest;
    • capacity control for every employer in the database;
    • school rules checked, for example no more than three students from the same class.
  • Notifications:
    • students get their schedule (address, time, contact person);
    • employers get the list of their students;
    • when the schedule changes, the system spots the difference and sends an email marked “CHANGE” that says exactly who is no longer coming and who is new.
  • Consent forms: each student gets the right PDF (for minors or adults), and the CRM tracks who has handed theirs in.
  • Roles and security: only coordinators have access, with access rules enforced in the database itself.
  • Finances: a record of wages and payment status per employer.

Technology

  • Next.js (React, TypeScript)
  • Supabase (PostgreSQL, Row Level Security, triggers)
  • Resend (sending and receiving email, webhooks)
  • Vercel (hosting and automatic deploys)

Results

  • 238 student applications from 20+ high schools, in every municipality of the canton.
  • 304 employers in the database, 208 contacted and 26 confirmed (public sector, IT, media, banks, NGOs, healthcare, retail).
  • 83 students placed in workplaces.
  • 500+ emails sent, each with its delivery tracked.
  • When 14 students cancelled the night before the event, the system made it possible to fill every place and notify every employer within a few hours.
  • On Google the site is on average among the top three results for “socijalni dan” and “socijalni dan 2026”.

Afterwards, one of the employers wrote that the organisation was “an example to be proud of”.
